Elisa, your wonderfully articulate (you make me laugh) post has reminded me of a research project I did on renewable energy sources. It is baffling; the benefits, long term and immediate are immense, yet nothing substantial is being done. I personally think a present foundation in renewable energy outlets is necessary to avoid economic and political chaos when our precious fossil fuels will one day run dry. As I dug deeper (including watching a little series called "How GM killed the electric car"), I began to find how far big business was willing to go to limit these new sources of energy. In fact, one of their dirtiest tricks is advertising. Say, for example, Shell runs an ad about their new campaign for a greener America or features a website with ways to help conserve. In this way, it seems like renewable outlets are being actively funded and explored. Wrong. The renewable energy system is tiny, and being limited by large corporations. I only fear (especially for the glaciers of course) the repercussions of cutthroat capitalism, and must, in turn, place all my hope in the government to get in between, uping the subsidies, funding, and benefits of renewable energy companies until a firm foundation is established.

Elisa, I liked your article ,and what you had to say about the current issue on global warming. I believe that since environmental problems are mostly man produced, man should be responsible for working to solve the current problems. I believe that the only way that we can fully work to stop this problem is through governmental intervention. Though this may be difficult it seems to be the only solution. With governmental intervention the government can regulate fuel emission, search for alternative fuel sources, and start to actually conserve the natural environment. Because like you I like the glaciers, and the polar bears too, and I read if global warming continues to accelerate at the rate it is polar bears could be extinct in the next twenty years.

Elisa,
I truly loved the points you made in your blog. Man is the cause of global warming, and although there are people who have realized what they are doing to the earth, many still do not know or care about the issues they have created. With global warming, our home is getting warmer, the air is getting dirtier, and the oceans are even rising! Basically, the idea that the United Nations and the European Union had of getting together in order to discuss this issue seems like a big step towards the repair of the Earth. I do hope that we figure out a way to stop global warming because, personally, I like our earth just the way it is.

why you get such long comments? I like the way your blog is laid out quite interesting. I think that these gas companies are dirrrrty durrrty and that we destroy the ice caps and we're gonna have a day after tomorrow and its gonna suck...
i like that you covered this topic, it makes me worry that our entire world is so consumed with poop issues that we forget bout these small things
